“From the Outside Looking In” the work of Joshua Louchheim

Shade Projects is excited to present From the Outside Looking Infeaturing the solo exhibition of local artist Joshua Louchheim on display in Shade Gallery at the monOrchid. From the Outside Looking Inshowcases Louchheim’s latest work, featuring 20 oil paintings highlighting the artist’s love of the landscape that will truly engage the senses and transport the viewer to another place and time. Shade Projects Curator, Nicole Royse, says “This emerging young artist dazzles with his unique mix of surrealism and original landscapes, creating work that offers a familiarity and is reminiscent of the late great Philip C. Curtis.”

Through his paintings he is able to combine the natural world and the world within his head, creating work that personal and emotive. As an artist Louchheim continues to grow as he continues his journey to “learn from the past while combining tradition with the contemporary”, says Louchheim. His paintings are skilled and his attention to detail is meticulous down to each paintings title, which Louchheim says each painting tells a story, the story I envision may not be the same as the viewers and this is why I give each one a title that acts as a guideline for its true meaning”.

Louchheim is a self-taught artist who has exhibited his artwork in various galleries in Arizona including Art One Gallery, the MonOrchid and most recently at the Herberger Theater Art Gallery, as well as being collected nationally. His work has also been featured in several local publications including YabYum Music & Arts and LocalRevibe.

The Opening Reception for From the Outside Looking In will be held on First Friday, May 1st from 6pm until 10pm with the artist in attendance In addition to music from the 76th Street Band that will perform between 7-9pm. The Closing Artist Reception will be held Third Friday, May 15th from 7-10pm. From the Outside Looking In will be on display in Shade Gallery at the monOrchid from May 1st until May 31, 2015.
